Command Line Editing in Bash and Ksh

It’s real and it’s here.

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update has been released and is already underway.

Among the new features this idea offers is for Windows, an Ubuntu-based tool that allows a person to run familiar Linux applications natively on Windows.

Microsoft calls it “the Windows subsystem for Linux”, but we prefer to call it (incorrectly) “Linux, the subsystem for Windows 10 search” because these words form a sequence that makes the most sense when you talk about it.< /p>

You can learn how to enable Ubuntu Bash in Windows 10th Anniversary Update and I’m here to teach you.

But before I get into the tutorials, I really want to make sure that your expectations about what is and isn’t bash on Windows are actually true. Namely:

  • It doesn’t have to be a virtual machine.
  • It’s not just a container
  • This is a chroot
  • Incomplete Linux distribution
  • This is an alternative for running Linux applications (mostly terminal-based) and bash commands on Windows with access to the Windows file system.

Microsoft has joined forces to provide Canonical with a complete Ubuntu-based bash shell for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. It runs on a Linux-compatible kernel interface, which, to further confuse them, does not benefit Linux. code.

The subsystem as a whole requires “less resources than a fully virtualized machine,” notes Microsoft. They add that the situation “allows you to run Linux command line tools and applications alongside your core Windows command line applications, desktop and store, and then access your Windows files from Linux. This allows you – if you wish – to use Windows Applications, Linux Applications and therefore Command Line Tools in the same specific files.’
